The Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction and recognition reserved for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position or office to one or more of the following: their lodge, the Order of the Arrow, Scouting, or their council scout camp. Under no circumstances should tenure in Scouting or the Order of the Arrow be considered as reason enough for a Vigil Honor recommendation.
Nominees must have been a Brotherhood member for a minimum of two years on or before Sunday, September 7th, 2014 and must be a current dues paid member.
2014 MA-NU LODGE BOWSTRING SOCIETY NOMINATIONS
NOMINATIONS ARE DUE BY SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6th, 2014
The Bowstring Society is a special ceremonies recognition that is distinctive to Ma-Nu Lodge. To qualify, a ceremonialist must have performed at least two parts, and memorized a third for the pre-ordeal, ordeal, or brotherhood ceremonies. The Candidate must also be a Brotherhood Member. The purpose of the Bowstring Society is to recognize outstanding ceremonialists, and to provide a pool of resources to draw from for further ceremonies training and education.
Bowstring members are recognized by a black sash with a white arrow on it; the same sash that was the original sash of the OA.
Once each year (calendar year or '"Scouting" year), a chartered Boy Scout troop may hold a unit election to elect members of their troop to become members of the Order of the Arrow. Both youth and adult Scouts and Scouters can become members of the OA. New members aren't elected only by the OA members in the troop, everyone in the troop votes to ensure that Scouts are elected mostly by people who are not OA members.
Youth elections are normally held at a normal troop meeting, and take about 20 minutes to complete. In order for an election to be held, at least 50% of the youth members must be present (based on the current chartered troop membership). If less than 50% are present, the election must be rescheduled. Only elections conducted by an official OA election team trained by Ma-Nu Lodge will be considered valid. Members of the troop cannot conduct the election.
Ma-Nu Lodge #133 holds elections from September 15th through December 15th. Elections are not held during Summer Camp. Only elections conducted by an official OA election team trained by Ma-Nu Lodge will be considered valid. Members of your own troop cannot conduct an election for your troop. Contact the Chapter Adviser in your District to schedule a Unit Election or Ma-Nu Lodge at firstname.lastname@example.org.
