NEWSLETTER TO CANADIAN VALLEY– MARCH 2011
Hello Everyone,
I want to thank each of you for doing your part to help provide an outstanding Scouting Program. Always remember that as Key Leaders of the Scouting Program, it is our responsibility to ensure that the Scouting Program we provide to our youth has a positive impact on our community.
COMMUNICATIONS:
The Last Frontier Council has made tremendous strides in providing and updating a great deal of information on the website. This will be the primary source of information for all the districts. Calendar information for upcoming events can be entered by the Program Chairs of each district. Contact me to get your login and password set up.
Event and information flyers can be downloaded directly from the website; this has replaced the “roundtable” flyer. Program information is available by the ton! Detailed information is also available to explain all areas of Journey To Excellence.
If you have a question about Scouting in the Last Frontier Council, please take a moment to look here first, www.lastfrontiercouncil.org.
UNIT SERVICE: DISTRICT RECHARTER – CONTACT YOUR UNIT COMMISSIONER!
If you haven’t started going through your unit roster and organizing your membership for recharter, now is the time! Our District Commissioner, Norvel Garlington and the Commissioner Corps need your cooperation and support during the next three weeks.
If you are unable to complete your recharter paperwork at tonight’s roundtable, contact your Unit Commissioner, and find out the status of your Unit’s Recharter. You can contact Mr. Garlinton at Norgar29@yahoo.com or call 405-220-5491. You can also contact Joe Gilmore at canadianvalleytrainer@yahoo.com.
Take a moment to call your unit commissioner and verify the status of your Unit!
FINANCE: FRIENDS OF SCOUTING
“We are not in the business of raising money, but it is something that we must do, so we’re going to be good at it, and get it over with quickly!” These are the words of our Scout Executive Jeff Woolsey and I agree with him wholeheartedly.
When you give to Friends of Scouting, a portion of that money is utilized to help provide uniform assistance and camperships, to youth in all 24 counties that we serve. If your unit has not scheduled an FOS Presentation or has had a presentation and felt that they couldn’t pledge anything, please contact our District Finance Chair, Tim Burg, to schedule an opportunity for one of our Trailblazers to briefly speak with your Unit Committee about Friends of Scouting. Tim can be reached at tburb@sedf.biz.
Our finance goal last year was $50,000 and we raised $43,360. We’re tentatively planning our victory celebration for the week of May 3rd. Let’s encourage everyone to participate!
I HAVE QUESTIONS! WHO SHOULD I CALL?
Please see the attached list of District Committee Members who can help you with specific questions about the Scouting Program in our district, from Activities to Training.
In closing, I will emphasize once again, that if you don’t feel that there is a degree of urgency to what we do, then you should feel free to call and schedule a few moments with our District Chairman, Randy Smith, or our District Vice Chairman, Brian McDougal, Shawnee’s City Manager, or Sue and Gary Way. They all agree that every youth that we fail to recruit into this character- building program, stands a chance of being caught up on the wrong end of the justice system.
Let’s do our very best to react to these items and help deliver an outstanding Scouting Program to our deserving young people!
Thanks again for your support!
Yours In Scouting,
Phillip Mitchell | District Director
