What is N.Y.L.T.?  National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth members of the Boy Scouts of America with Leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

N.Y.L.T. is a six-day course completed over two weekends.  The concepts center on what a leader must be, what a leader must know, and what a leader must do.  The key elements are taught with a focus on how to apply them in everday situations.

N.Y.L.T. is a fun experience that will energize young leaders.  The setting for this course is John W. Nichols Scout Ranch on the southwest side of Oklahoma City.

Who should attend?  The course is designed for youth members of the Boy Scouts of America.

Requirements for Boy Scout Participants:

  • Be First Class Rank or higher.
  • Complete Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (or Troop Leadership Training).

The N.Y.L.T.Staff:  The course is directed by youth leaders with adult guidance. The Benefits of the Course:  Youth leaders will learn practical leadership skills they can remember and immediately apply in everyday life.  N.Y.L.T. uses concepts that are connected to rank advancement in Scouting and award achievement in Venturing.  The course is recognized throughout the Boy Scouts of America as the nationally-prescribed training course for youth leadersand is a prerequisite for several programs including the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience at Philmont, Jamboree troop leadership, and future N.Y.L.T. staff participation.
